During your first Invisalign dentist San Diego consultation, we will have an in depth discussion about your goals, and a clinical evaluation of your bite. Then we will discuss the use of Invisalign treatment and any potential cosmetic dentistry needs. It is common that after aligning the teeth patients desire to have them whitened as well. We begin the Invisalign straightening treatment by taking a panorex x-ray or making a mold of your teeth to produce records that may be referenced to develop an alignment strategy. After review of the records I will write the prescription for treatment and send this along with your records to the Align Technology Company. They will send back a scan of your teeth, which can be manipulated through their software to show the movement of your teeth in 2-week increments. This allows us to plan the treatment strategy and have an image of what your adjusted smile will look like once work is completed. Through this exercise we will be able to judge the length of treatment necessary to achieve your dental goals. Finally, once you approve to receive treatment it takes 3-4 weeks for the first Invisalign trays to be fabricated and ready for use.

It is important to remember that an Invisalign retainer must be worn 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, except when eating and drinking, for at least 1 year, and thereafter they are to be worn at night indefinitely. This takes dedication and discipline (I also offer fixed retainers for those who find it difficult to comply with the removable retainers).
