First, you will come into the office for a consultation where we will be able to examine your teeth and discuss treatment options in detail. Then at your first Invisible Braces San Diego appointment we will take an impression of your teeth using a plastic mould, which will be used for the creation of customized brackets for each of your teeth. Once the brackets have been prepared you will be able to come in for the second Invisible Braces appointment, where we will install the brackets and wire, which will allow us to move the teeth into place.

After installation you will come in for regular visits where we will adjust the equipment and apply a new wire. Through this process you will begin to see the transformation of your mouth into the perfect smile that you have longed for.

If you want to straighten your upper and lower front teeth only and your bite is fine then my straight teeth in 6 months program will apply.  Patients are very excited to hear about this accelerated orthodontic technique which I have been doing since the 1980’s.  If you have bite issues then 6-12 months is an average range.

Is short term orthodontics with braces harmful to my teeth?

 
My accelerated orthodontic technique is not harmful to teeth.  I have treated thousands of cases and never had not root resorption or any adverse effects.  Although the occurrence is unusual, orthodontists acknowledge that it is possible that this can occur with any orthodontic treatment. 

I am traveling for work and I will not we in San Diego for 2 months at a time.  Can I use Invisalign to straighten my teeth?

Absolutely.  In fact for people who travel, Invisalign is my first choice for treatment over Braces.  I hear this question a lot.  Almost every patient who asks this hers from me that I can straighten their teeth and improve their bite with Invisalign.  There are limitations of the compared to using braces.  However, some patients refuse to wear braces regardless. With Invisalign,  I have been able to correct under bites, cross bites, extrusions all of which are more difficult to achieve with Invisalign.  When Invisalign began years ago, they awarded me as an Invisalign “Innovator” which reflects a progressive approach to improving the Invisalign technique when it was new.  Since then I have been awarded for many years as a Premier Provider of Invisalign, representing a group of the top 5% best dentists in America for our experience and success with Invisalign.

Does Invisalign take longer than Braces?

I try to keep the Invisalign treatment as short as possible when I plan the movement on my software.  Invisalign usually takes longer than braces in part because I employ my straight teeth in 6 months technique with braces, which is hard to surpass for efficiency.  See my article about accelerated orthodontics and quick braces, under the orthodontics tab.

During your first Invisalign dentist San Diego consultation, we will have an in depth discussion about your goals, and a clinical evaluation of your bite. Then we will discuss the use of Invisalign treatment and any potential cosmetic dentistry needs. It is common that after aligning the teeth patients desire to have them whitened as well. Teeth bleaching through ZOOM! is done in my office while you watch a movie or listen to your favorite music. 

After we thoroughly discuss the possibilities and limitations of Invisalign treatment, I will explain the process of Invisalign implementation. We begin the Invisalign straightening treatment by taking a panorex x-ray or making a mold of your teeth to produce records that may be referenced to develop an alignment strategy. After review of the records I will write the prescription for treatment and send this along with your records to the Align Technology Company. They will send back a scan of your teeth, which can be manipulated through their software to show the movement of your teeth in 2-week increments. This allows us to plan the treatment strategy and have an image of what your adjusted smile will look like once work is completed. Through this exercise we will be able to judge the length of treatment necessary to achieve your dental goals. Finally, once you approve to receive treatment it takes 3-4 weeks for the first Invisalign trays to be fabricated and ready for use.

It is important to remember that an Invisalign retainer must be worn 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, except when eating and drinking, for at least 1 year, and thereafter they are to be worn at night indefinitely. This takes dedication and discipline (I also offer fixed retainers for those who find it difficult to comply with the removable retainers).

Braces for Children - When I evaluate children for BRACES  I am primarily focused on the alignment of the upper and lower jaws.  A common problem that I see is a cross bite with the back teeth. either one one side or both sides.  Another problem is when the upper front teeth grow inside the lower front teeth.  This is called an under bite.  These bite problems are very important to intercept and begin treatment as soon as possible with BRACES or an expansion appliance.  If they are not corrected, then the jaws will continue to develop in an abnormal shape which can lead to aesthetic and functional issues.  TMJ dysfunction is often a result of abnormal bites.
