Repairing and Replacing Teeth

Crown and bridge prosthetics are an essential element of restorative and cosmetic dentistry in Dr. George’s San Diego – La Jolla dental office.

Often, our team sees ill-fitting restorations that need to be replaced due to open margins that allow bacteria to get under the crown and cause decay. To avoid this, Dr. George uses only the best materials and technology.

Dental Crowns

Our crowns are made with computer software that creates a perfect fitting crown. It is also important to make sure the tooth is prepped with a clear and precise margin. Dr. George takes his time and pays attention to every detail, so our patients will have beautiful fitting crowns that last for many years.

Dental Bridges

We craft bridges with the same materials and technology that are used with crowns. A bridge can be fabricated to replace a missing tooth, as an alternative to a dental implant. Dr. George might recommend a bridge if you are missing one or more teeth, and you have healthy adjacent teeth that can support crowns to anchor the prosthesis. If a space or gap is left untreated, the remaining teeth can rotate, shift, or super erupt. In some cases, this can cause a bad bite and lead to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Crowns and bridges can be fabricated from various metals and porcelains. Over the years, dental materials have improved dramatically. All porcelain with no metal allows for a more natura- looking restoration that is cosmetically pleasing. On posterior teeth (molars), zirconium is a good core base to support a porcelain crown. Zirconium provides excellent strength and fracture resistence. With metal-free porcelain and zirconia crowns,  the problem of dark lines from metal crowns and bridges is eliminated.
